Scrunch AI alternative: agent-ready infrastructure vs a per-site loop

Scrunch monitors eight AI engines, reports which bots actually crawl you, and can serve agents a stripped machine-readable version of your pages at the CDN. It starts at $250/month billed annually. SERPclimber covers five engines at $149/month per site and spends the rest of its effort on the work that follows — finding pages losing clicks in Search Console, drafting the fix, publishing it, and proving it worked. Here is the honest comparison.

The short verdict

Scrunch AI is one of the more technically ambitious products in AI-visibility monitoring, and the ambition points at your infrastructure rather than your reporting. It tracks brand presence across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Mode, Google AI Overviews, Microsoft Copilot and Meta AI, with Grok listed as coming soon. On top of that it does two things most competitors do not: it reports observed AI bot traffic — crawl frequency, bot diversity, your most-crawled pages — and it ships an Agent Experience Platform that intercepts AI crawlers at the CDN and serves them a compact, server-rendered version of the page. Their own published example takes a pricing page from roughly 124,000 tokens down to about 1,300.

SERPclimber tracks ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity, Gemini and Claude, and puts its weight behind the execution loop instead: Search Console tells us which of your existing pages are losing clicks, variants get drafted from those pages' own query data, they publish to your CMS once you approve, and every change runs as a live experiment against that page's baseline with losing variants reverting automatically.

The honest split is infrastructure versus iteration. If you believe the lever is how your site is served to agents — and there is a real argument for that — Scrunch is doing work nobody else is doing, and you should look at them seriously. If you believe the lever is which pages you fix and whether the fix actually worked, that is our side of the line. Note the entry cost difference before you decide: their Starter is $250/month billed annually or $300 month-to-month, against $149/month per site here.

Which fits your team?

~/serpclimberbest for

Choose SERPclimber if…

You run one site, or a handful, and your bottleneck is doing the work rather than seeing more of it. You want the pages that are slipping surfaced from your own Search Console data, a draft written against those pages’ real queries, publishing on your approval, and a controlled test that tells you whether the change actually helped. You would rather spend $149 on a loop that closes than $250 on a wider dashboard.

~/scrunch.combest for

Choose Scrunch AI if…

You believe the lever is infrastructure. You want to know which AI bots crawl you and how often, you want to serve those bots a compact machine-readable page without changing what humans see, and you need Google AI Mode, Copilot or Meta AI coverage. You have several seats to fill and SSO to satisfy. At that shape, Scrunch is doing genuinely novel work and we are not a substitute for it.

~/serpclimber/compare/scrunch-ai-alternative/infrastructure-vs-loop

The Agent Experience Platform is a different bet, not a better dashboard

Most products in this category argue about engine counts. Scrunch’s most interesting feature is not on that axis at all.

Their Agent Experience Platform sits at your CDN, detects AI crawlers, and serves them a stripped, server-rendered version of the page while humans continue to get your normal site. The published example reduces a pricing page from roughly 124,000 tokens to about 1,300. The thesis is that models have limited context and a cleaner page is a more quotable one.

We do not do this, and it is worth being clear that we have no equivalent. Our bet runs the other way: that the page an agent reads is the page your visitors read, and the way to be cited more is to make that one page genuinely better and then prove the change helped.

Both bets can be right. They are just not the same product, and if the CDN layer is where you want to intervene, the comparison ends there.

  • Scrunch: intervene at delivery — serve agents a compact version of the page
  • SERPclimber: intervene at the source — rewrite the page, publish it, measure the lift
  • Their approach needs Akamai, Cloudflare, Vercel or WordPress in front of your site
  • Ours needs Google Search Console connected and a CMS we can publish to
~/serpclimber/compare/scrunch-ai-alternative/prompt-budgets

Prompt allowances and ask budgets are not the same unit

Scrunch Starter includes 350 custom prompts plus 1,000 industry prompts. We include 25 live AI Visibility asks per site per month. On the face of it that looks like a rout, and on raw volume it is — but the two numbers measure different things.

Their prompts are a standing tracked set: a list you define once that gets re-checked on their schedule, which is exactly what you want if your job is reporting brand presence over time to somebody else.

Our asks are an on-demand budget: browsing the discovered question index costs nothing, and an ask is only spent when you fire a specific question live at the engines. That suits a different job — checking whether a change you just made moved a specific answer.

If you need continuous broad monitoring across hundreds of prompts, buy theirs; we will run out. If you check a smaller set deliberately and spend your time on the fix, 25 goes further than it sounds, and overages are capped at $0.50 each.

  • Scrunch Starter: 350 custom + 1,000 industry prompts, re-checked on schedule
  • SERPclimber: 25 live asks per site per month, pooled across the account
  • Unmetered here: browsing the discovered question index
  • Overage here: $0.50 per extra ask, capped

Where Scrunch is simply the better buy

Three cases where we would point you at them without hesitating.

You need engines we do not track. Google AI Mode, Microsoft Copilot and Meta AI are all in their catalogue and none are in ours. If your brand shows up in Copilot because your buyers live in Microsoft 365, that is not a gap we can close for you.

You want to know who is crawling you. Their bot analytics answer a question we cannot answer at all: which AI crawlers hit your site, how often, and which pages they take. If your first question is "is GPTBot even reaching us", start there.

You are a team, not a person. Starter includes three seats and Growth five, with SSO available. We are built around one operator running one site well.

  • Google AI Mode, Copilot and Meta AI coverage — not available here
  • Observed AI crawler traffic and bot diversity reporting — not available here
  • Multi-seat plans and enterprise SSO — not available here
  • 7-day free trial with no card and no sales call

Both products answer "are we visible in AI answers". They diverge on what you do next: Scrunch changes what agents receive, SERPclimber changes what everyone receives and then tests whether it mattered.

If you want the measurement half of our loop on its own, AI Visibility tracking is the surface to look at, and SEO Experiments is the part that turns a change into evidence.
