Optimize a Website for Voice Search

Optimize a Website for Voice Search

The expected change in SEO search for years to come is undoubtedly voice search. Voice search is faster, more natural, and convenient, so it’s no wonder that it’s already replacing keyboard search in the US.

According to Google, 55% of teenagers and 41% of adults search the US using their voice. Almost everyone explores with their voice. And that was only 2014. I’m sure you can imagine the status quo.

But how to adapt to this? How to optimize your website so that the public can still find it in search engines and how to prepare for it all? That’s what we’re going to talk about in this article.

Optimize a Website Voice Search for mobile

The vast majority of voice searches are done via mobile phone. It’s obvious. We always have our mobile phone with us, and also courting search queries is much more convenient than via computer. However, it can also come to the page from computers with a digital hr assistant, such as SiriCortana, or Google Voice Search. It would help if you also had a microphone for voice search.

So try to adapt your website to mobile phones at first. The page must be clear for the mobile phone so that everything is displayed as needed and there is no problem when visiting the user. For example, if you use a WordPress editorial system with a responsive HTML5 template, the pages automatically adapt to mobile phones. Still, you have to make some minor changes. Google’s PageSpeed Insights (PSI) will help you with this. But take it with a grain of time because even the Seznam.CZ did not fare very well in the analysis. However, PSI will offer you several options for improvement, which are something to think about.

Our dear voice assistants

Our dear voice assistants

We use several voice assistants for searching. The most capable of these is Apple’s Siri, which speaks 21 languages. However, we also have Cortana from Microsoft, Alexa from Amazon. Viv from Samsung or Google Voice Search from Google.

Voice Assistant is part of the operating system that you use on your mobile phone. The assistant records your voice recording and adapts to your individual language needs. Based on your commands, he will give you recommendations, dial a phone number, adjust the calendar or show the route to the nearest restaurant.

However, each voice assistant is different, just as it differs in entering voice queries into searches among mobile phone users. This is a huge problem that needs to be addressed.

In addition, the voice assistant also has an ambient volume that can interfere with your input. Google will then spit out the answer you need to hear. Did anyone interrupt? Well, you have to enter the voice query again. You do not have to deal with this disadvantage when searching because you will see the search result again on your mobile phone.

However, the advantages of voice search far outweigh its shortcomings. In particular, it is the freedom that guarantees that we can search almost at any time. Another reason is speed, convenience, naturalness, or connection with third-party services – we can already book a ticket in the theatre using a voice, for example. Simple, fast, comfortable. Voice search is a trend that is just there, that we adore and that we will have to respond to.

Longer than shorter

In a few minutes, we can say more words than writing. Talking is more natural for us and up to 4 times faster than typing these words on a keyboard. If you’re customizing keywords to voice search, use mainly long-tail phrases. Voice search queries are more extended than when we write them.

For example, if I’m looking for the nearest restaurant for our great evening, I’ll write in the restaurant search engine and then search on the closest maps. It’s completely different with voice search. When searching for the nearest restaurant, I enter the request“where is the nearest restaurant?” by voice. Do you see? It is longer and completely changes the system to which we have been accustomed up to now.

However, in addition to length, we must also prepare for the structure or logic of questioning. Each of us will ask different questions, each of us will use other terms, and each of us will use an extra search query length. This represents millions and millions of combinations that your site should adapt to. So how to do it with a few basic steps?

  1. Write down the product or service that your business and your website are dedicated to. The same is the case for articles when you write interesting things for your blog.
  2. Please write down the basic questioning pronouns that we use in everyday speech—questioning how, where, who, how many, etc. These questioning pronouns are most likely to be used by your customers, according to Crazyegg’s research. The most significant increase in use is in the pronoun who, when, where, or how. When searching, the questioning pronouns are then used in the connection ” where is the nearest restaurant, “how to repair the washing machine, “whensázavafest” will be, etc.
  3. Immerse yourself in your customers’ thinking and combine individual words into the entire query sentence, just as you can see in the figure below.

We can then show the procedure on a simple example with spaghetti as our best product.

Product: Spaghetti.

Questioning pronouns: what, where, when, who, why, how, what.

To create query sentences:

  • what?
    • What is spaghetti?
    • What do I need to cook spaghetti?
    • What should I know about spaghetti?
  • Where?
    • Where can I find spaghetti?
    • Where do I buy spaghetti?
    • Where can I make spaghetti?
    • Where can I get help cooking spaghetti?
  • When?
    • When is the spaghetti shop open?
    • When to cook spaghetti?
  • Who?
    • Who’s going to sell me spaghetti?
    • Who’s going to help me cook spaghetti?
    • Who’s in charge of cooking spaghetti?
  • Why?
    • Why cook spaghetti?
    • Why make spaghetti sauce?
    • Why is spaghetti round?
    • Why use spaghetti?
  • How?
    • How to cook spaghetti?
    • How to grate cheese into spaghetti?
    • How to serve spaghetti?
  • What kind, which one?
    • What spaghetti is the best
    • What procedure to choose when cooking spaghetti?

Note that in each question, the keyword is “spaghetti.” Your product must be included in your keyword list because it’s the product name included in every voice search—however, the word of the query changes.

We are happy if our article helped you optimize your website. Voice search is natural to us, it is fast, convenient and already used by many of us. Its modification is essential because the age of worldwide voice search is slowly approaching, and it is good to be ready for it. So make a list of your products and services, think of questions your customers are likely to look for you with, and incorporate keywords and phrases into your site. This will keep you at the forefront of voice search as well.
