Simple step-by-step guide on how to start your blog efficiently, quickly, and with quality. Suitable even for a beginner without technical knowledge.
A lot has been written about blogging. Most successful bloggers started by wanting to share their thoughts or experiences. Well, there’s a lot more to blogging. In the following article, you’ll learn how to get started, what blogging will bring you, and what you’ll need to create your blog.
The instructions are designed for complete beginners. So if you don’t have the technical knowledge, don’t worry about anything.
Why start blogging?
Blogging is about finding new topics, writing, and education. When you write about what interests you, it also becomes a way of self-realization. After a while, you will find that you have learned a lot by blogging – and not only from the
The blog will enrich you in many ways. First, it will bring you a view of the world you’ve never looked at before. Second, you learn to share with others what interests them and help them solve their problems. Third, you’ll also get feedback to help you keep improving.
Last but not least, you will become visible. A blog is a great way to gain new contacts and opportunities. Entrepreneurs can also use this form of visibility. If you have your own business, one of the best ways to attract new customers is through a blog on your website. Just select valuable topics and process them interestingly.
Select a blog topic
Each blog should be thematically appropriately focused. Choose a theme you enjoy. You can write about your hobbies and hobbies, for example. It can be sports, travel, or even cooking or caring for pets.
Many blogs also focus on healthy lifestyles, family, child-rearing, and relationships. Housing and garden care are also famous and popular topics. If you are preparing a business blog, its case will be related to your business area.
How to write posts
Even the most interesting topics can be handled boringly. And people don’t even read a boring post. Therefore, the quality of contributions is essential. If you want people to like to come back to you, write engagingly and without unnecessary detours from the topic. Individual posts should have a logical structure.
Don’t forget the pictures. Suitable images improve the readability and memorableness of text. If you don’t know where to get quality pictures for free, you can find an article on this topic on my website as well.
How to earn on a blog
If your blog has enough traffic, you can earn money from it. There are several ways to monetize a blog:
- recommendations of goods or e-shops for commission (affiliate campaigns),
- Provide space for Google AdSense
- sale of own services (web programming, translation and texting, social network management, interior design services, photography, and the like),
- Paid premium blog content
- If you have enough blog fans, you can become an influencer and influence the purchasing behavior of others.
First of all, you should see from the blog that you enjoy writing it. If you want to be successful, it’s not appropriate to see on your blog that it’s primarily for earning. Most people just run through such a site without getting into the content. Also, be aware in advance that you can’t make money in this way right from the start. First, you need to get a good reading base.
You can learn more about this topic in my article XY ways to make money on the Internet (soon).
You can also have a blog completely free of charge, even without buying a domain and hosting. While this solution is tempting at first glance, it does not provide sufficient possibilities. For example, the owners of the system where you create a blog can interfere with it. It is also common to have ads displayed.
In the future, you will not be able to make money on your blog or be limited. As a rule, the free blog also does not provide sufficiently rich design editing options.
A big drawback is that your Page name will also include the name of the service you used to create it. This will make your blog address look like this:
An address like that doesn’t look professional. This can reduce blog traffic before you start contributing to it.
For these reasons, you’d better be the first to purchase your domain and hosting. Then, in the second step, you can choose a platform to create a blog for free. I recommend one of the following platforms:
I also deal with these tools below.
Select a domain
A domain is the address of a website. You only pay a few euros a year for your part. Therefore, pay sufficient attention to the choice of its name. Under this domain, people will remember you.
The domain name should meet the following criteria:
- First, it must be easy to remember. Therefore, a complex and lengthy term composed of foreign words will not be appropriate.
- It should relate to a topic that the blog deals with.
- It is not suitable for it to contain numbers or hyphens. This is because people often don’t remember them.
- If you’re going to promote your services or business through a blog, your last name or business name is also a good name.
The endgame also forms a domain.
It is also essential that it has an ending .cz. People will automatically write this ending when they search for your Page. That’s right – we’re in the Czech Republic. You .com consider conclusions only if you plan to reach an audience outside our territory.

Why hosting is needed
Hosting is the space on the server where the website is stored. Thus, your readers will have access to it at any time. Hosting can be purchased along with the domain.
While it’s possible to get free hosting, you’d do better if you’re serious about blogging if you paid for hosting. Free hosting doesn’t offer the same features as a paid service. It also often happens that various outages would make your Page unavailable.

Choosing the right platform
When creating your blog, you have several options to choose from. You can have it made by a professional or use one of the available online tools:
MyWeb – a straightforward online tool for creating blogs and websites. For its simplicity and other advantages, I recommend it, especially to non-technical people who are thinking about starting a blog if you find the complete tutorial in this review of MyWeb.
Webnode – another famous website builder. If you’re interested, see a specific guide on blogging in this Webnode review.
WordPress.com – is a similar tool for creating websites and blogging as the previous two. For more information about it, see WordPress.org vs. WordPress.com.
WordPress.org – is open source. This means that you can use it for your website for free. It brings many benefits, which I will also use in this tutorial to start a blog. First, however, it would help if you had your domain and web hosting to create a page.
I recommend choosing MioWeb, Webnode, or WordPress (which I do in this tutorial).
What do you need to start a blog?
To get started, you need to choose two things:
- The domain name (this will be the name for your WordPress blog, for example, in my case, it is jurosko. CZ)
- Web hosting (this will be the service where your website will be located)
The great news is that you only need less than 30 minutes of your time to start your blog.
Domain settings and web hosting
There are many quality hosting companies in Slovakia and abroad where you can buy web hosting and domain. However, I don’t recommend free hosting as they have many drawbacks and limitations, overpaid ones that you would most likely pay for later.
The price of hosting is much lower nowadays compared to the past; you can have quality web hosting for as little as 150-300 CROWNS per month. The price of the .cz domain will cost you about 200 crowns per year. I recommend you buy both domain and web hosting from the same provider, saving you the time and worry you would have with switching domains with web hosting.
I consider the best hosting in the Czech Republic to be the one from Web support, which I have chosen for all my websites. Therefore, I will also use Web support hosting for this tutorial. You can find why I decided to do just this hosting in case of interest in the Article on the speed of WordPress.Web support
So let’s go, open the Web support Page in a new window, enter the domain you want in the domain verification window, and click the “Verify” button:
If the domain is free, click on the “Add” button (pictured below). Otherwise, try to find another suitable environment that will be free.
Click continue. Here you can choose “Looking for a ready-made WordPress solution”:
Scroll to the bottom of the Page where “WordPress The Hosting” – a solution specially optimized for the WordPress blog. It would help if you chose the “Basic” option (15GB / 1 domain) to start. Later, you can switch to higher hosting at any time if needed.
To confirm the option, click “Add” and then click “Continue to Cart” to continue. This moves you to the contents of your cart:
In your cart, choose your purchased domain as the primary domain for WordPress hosting and click on the “Save” button:
To get two months free of charge in addition to any hosting ordered for one year, you can use the coupon code LBOJ8E2JZW, which can be inserted after selecting “I want to use the coupon” and confirming with the “Redeem” button:
To confirm your purchase, use the “Order” button. There you enter the required data and put “Send order.”
Automatically install WordPress
Are you expecting an installation in this step? You should find an email in your inbox that you entered when you registered. So I will please you; in WebSupport, WordPress hosting you automatically installed after ordering.
This email clearly explains that it may take longer for the website to be linked to your purchased domain. Until then, you have your website available at a temporary address.
And, when I opened this address in my browser, I found my WordPress blog already installed on it:
Don’t worry; you can change the basic look of your website.
Sign in to the administration
Congratulations, in the previous step, you successfully managed to install your WordPress blog. You can access the administration of your website via the following link mentioned in the email above.
In my case, it is http://d.websupport.sk/wordpressblog.sk/wp-admin/, or if the domain has already been linked, then the link to the http://wordpressblog.sk/wp-admin/. Here I can find the possibility of logging into the administration of the Page:
After entering the login details (also received in the emails), you will be taken to the administration:
Now we are ready to customize the look of your website and start blogging itself.
Choose the right template.
As I mentioned above, the visual appearance of your blog is controlled by themes (templates). Therefore, the primary topic chosen by WebSupport will not be the most suitable for some people.
There are thousands of free ready-made templates that can be installed. If you don’t like either one of them, there are just as many paid topics.
You can change your topic by clicking on “Appearance” -> “Topics.” Here are issues that are already preinstalled in WordPress:
You can add a new theme by clicking on “Add a new one”:
On the next screen, you’ll be able to search from over 4,400free topics available as part of the official WordPress.org website. You can sort them by popularity, popularity, date of addition, or filter them (by layout, features, and so on):
When you have found a theme you like, hover over it, and you will be shown the “Install” button. Click on it and wait for the topic to install. Then the “Install” button is replaced by the “Activate” button. You need to click on it to activate this topic.
Tip: check out the list of the best WordPress templates.
After installing the topic, you can further adjust its appearance by clicking on “Appearance” -> “Customize.” So we have successfully chosen our topic, and now we are finally ready to create our first blog post.
Create your first Article
To write the first post on your WordPress blog, click on “Articles” -> “Add New.” This is how you get to the editor of a news article where you can create one:
After you insert the article’s title and its contents, continue and click the “Publish” button. This will publish the Article on your website. Congratulations, you have successfully published the first blog article.
Additional customizing – plugins, categories, and tags
In the articles section, you may notice other items such as categories and tags. You can use these to organize your posts:
On your blog, you may want to add elements other than text to articles. For example, let’s say you want to use a contact form, tables, image galleries, buttons, and so on.
Plugins are used for this purpose in WordPress. You can think of them as applications (modules) that allow you to add new features to a web page. You can search for and install these plugins in the “Plugins” section -> “Add new”:
It’s a similar way we’ve shown ourselves when choosing a topic. Plugins can also be switched on/off at will in the “Installed plugins” section.
